Are you a Rimmel fan? I'm a sucker for their mascaras and I'm sure you will have heard of the new #Instafix collection. I absolutely adore the new #Instafix collection and love the idea behind the range and how fun the packaging and products are to use. You might have already seen my Rimmel Instafix Collection First Impressions Tutorial, but if not make sure to check it out.
Dewy skin is most definitely my thing and the new Instafix collection really delivers on this factor. I was really impressed with the results from the Fix & Go finishing spray and the Fix and Matte powder. These had to be my favourite products from the line and I actually use them most days as part of my daily makeup routine and for more glam events such as nights out or festivals. The Fix & Go Spray was a saviour this weekend at Carnival 56 in Dundee. My makeup was left looking on fleek all day/night and with a dewy finish, which is perfect for festivals against glitter hair and makeup. I can't really explain this but my makeup was already by 9 AM and it lasted all the way up to 2 AM after a late-ish after party after the main festival events. What surprised me most about this wasn't the fact my makeup stayed put all day with rain coming into play during the festival and busy crowds/dancing, it was more when I removed my makeup that I noticed a fundamental difference to my skin. It just looked good.... Good as in no breakouts, baby soft skin with a smooth surface! I was expecting my skin to look really tired, drained and washed out, but this totally wasn't the case.
The Fix & Go 2-1 Setting Spray/Primer* is a great budget friendly option and it smells so refreshing for the summer months and surprisingly light on the skin. As you guys will know my skins terrible for breaking out and let me tell you.... This never broke me out once and continues not too! It's amazing. Going by this factor I know the spray doesn't clog my pores and allows my skin to breathe, which is a really HUGE deal to me. I love the way this sits on my skin and gives my makeup a flawless finish. I can't wait to get using this more and it's actually inspired me to invest in GLAMGLOWS new setting spray range and it's just got me genuinely excited to try similar formulas out and achieve that perfect dewy finish I crave.
I've been really liking the Insta Conceal and Correct Palette* for its ability to go under and over my makeup and blend beautifully for that natural finish. It's a brilliant little palette and one I pop in my travel bag to cover up tired eyes and make them brighter in appearance with the nifty colour correcting shades and the green is perfect for concealing redness and pesky blemishes. Each shade is nicely pigmented and very creamy in consistency which is lovely as it makes such a difference compared to their Conceal and Contour palette, which was a huge let down on this part. All in all, you can't really go wrong with this palette and it makes for great use if you're new to colour correcting like myself and want a choice of colours to play around with before committing to more higher end palettes.
Insta Duo Contour Stick*, not one for the light hearted I can tell you that! This was rather disappointing for me as the contour end isn't as orange toned as the contour palette per say but you could still see the orange under tones once blended into the skin (not a good look). This could be different for those blessed with more coloured skin but for us pale gals, it's not the most flattering of finishes to your base. I wish I could love this as I like the idea of the stick and how blendable the product itself is! It literally melts into the skin and blends beautifully. The highlight however on the end works amazingly for giving a pop of colour to the cheeks with a hint of shimmer. I wouldn't go as out to say it was blinding but it gives off a more subtle highlight which is nice for low key events or every day; however, I personally love a more POPPING highlight for all occasions and this just doesn't deliver on that aspect.
The Fix and Matte Powder*, on the other hand, is the holy grail of the collection. Hands down my favourite product and I just love the way it finishes off my makeup beautifully. You get a lot of product for your coin and a little goes a very long way with this powder. It's very finely milled and gives a beautifully soft, focused finish. This does give a great matte finish but if you don't build it up you can achieve a really nice dewy glow too! In the video, I went light with the powder to leave my skin glowing but did build up around my T-Zone area for a more matte finish.
My least favourite from the collection was the Insta Conceal & Contour Palettes*; these were just a no-no in my opinion and something I will not be buying into again, unfortunately. I just find the formula very warm toned with deep orange under tones once applied to the skin. Comparing the palette to the Contour Stick, for instance, the formula is WAYYY off! Totally different and much more drying compared to the duo stick which is very buttery in consistency. The palettes are more drying and require extra work to blend to a nice, au-natural finish. I was just left genuinely unimpressed with these palettes and the concealer was noticeable and very dark in tone compared to the contour shades. This being very odd as normal concealer should be cool toned with a lighter shade to rid of dark circles and the like, however, the concealer was just way too dark for my skin. The concealer was dark enough but had a very harsh orange under tone to the palette and it just didn't give me that natural vibe which I adore, this palette just wasn't to my taste...
