While travelling to Edinburgh, a visit to Jamie's Italian was on the cards, nestled in George Street; a short walk from central Princess Street. I can proudly say that I was invited to try out the new Super Lunch menu deal.
Let me start off by saying that the menu was simply divine and excellent value for money, you certainly will not be disappointed with what this menu has to offer and the generous portions. Jamie's Italian was founded in Oxford back in 2008, since then it has branched out to 40 restaurants worldwide and inspired by Jamie's love for Italian food and the way of life. Jamie Oliver has always been a favourite chef of mine for his down to earth attitude and for all the work he has down to shed light on obesity through his TED Talk and other campaigns. The quality and variety of food on the menu will appeal to most with some unique twists in-between.
Deseret's we both went with the Epic Brownie because I'm a sucker for chocolate and can't say no to a warm fudgy brownie which was exactly what we got served. On the brownie, we got a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramelised popcorn with a light warm sauce. The desert was brilliant and worked out as the perfect palette cleanser to finish the meal! I wish I tried the Orange Blossom Polenta Cake as something different to Kyle but there's always next time. The atmosphere was really relaxing, romantic and warming with the dimmed light setting, it was so dreamy and really get's you in the mood for dinning and enjoying your evening.
For starters, we had the Truffle Tagliatelle (handmade pasta served with a luxurious black truffle butter) and Fritto Misto (Crispy Fried Fish and Squid tossed in fennel-spiced flour). I had the Truffle Tagliatelle and really enjoyed this as my started! The portion size was very reasonable and the sauce was delicious and complimented the pasta really well with a generous topping of Parmesan, nutmeg and shaved black truffle. Kyle had the Fritto Misto which provided lot's of texture and depth with the crispy batter and garlic/lemon dip. For the mains, I treated myself to the Italian Steak and Fries which I absolutely loved! It was medium rare and very juicy. It was doused in a herby garlic butter with a rocket salad on the side and french fries. Kyle went with the Gennard's Chicken Club, this was chargrilled marinated free-range chicken, crispy pancetta, spicy nduja mayo, fontal cheese and tomato on a seeded bun.
Over all I was blown away with my experience at Jamie's Italian and will definitely be back again to sample other treats from the menu and some of the fresh cocktails on the drinks menu. The ingredients are of high quality and sourced from producers in the UK and Italy; you can really taste this through the meals served and not to mention the perfect presentation of each dish. If you ever want to visit to sample the menu for yourself then I highly recommend you do, as you wont be disappointed. Housed in the former supper halls of the Assembly Rooms with grand celling's and red velvet chairs. it makes for the perfect romantic get away or relaxing enough for a day out with family and friends.
