First dates are always nerve-wracking. As well as deciding on the perfect activity, something that’s interesting but doesn’t stop you from getting to know each other, you’ll also need to decide on the perfect outfit. As Britain falls more in love with coffee, the popularity of coffee dates is on the rise.
In 2015, Starbucks was named the most popular destination for a first date and I can totally see why as it's my first stop when needing a quick pick-me-up and what better way than to grab a large Pumpkin Spiced Latte now that Autumn is here. Autumn has always been my favourite time of year for coffee as it's when my favourite blends come out and it makes for the perfect chance to chat in a relaxed atmosphere.
Coffee Date Style....
Dress it up
Just because autumn has arrived it doesn’t mean you have to ditch the dresses altogether. Rather, it simply provides you with more style possibilities. Denim shirt dresses were popular for summer 2017 and they are proving a key transitional piece for autumn/winter 2017. Instead of wearing them with sandals, add an autumnal vibe with chunky tights and ankle boots with a chunky block heel. You could even throw on a pair of over knee boots to up the ante and if that isn't suitable a pair of polished black kitten heeled boots might be? I love my Acne Studios boots and think these are perfect for everyday wear but also look sleek paired with skinny jeans. Don’t be afraid of prints and patterns either.
Dark florals are perfect for mastering this season’s grunge-inspired trend. Of course, checks and plaid patterns emerge every autumn/winter and 2017 is set to be no different. To avoid clashing prints, keep other items in your outfit muted. If you love wearing heels, however, this is also acceptable if you feel comfortable walking in stilettos! I love the Nudist collection from Stuart Weitzman as worn here, for a polished look that works well with everything in my wardrobe.
The beauty of a café date is that it almost always comes with a relaxed dress code — meaning jeans and flats are totally acceptable. This is the look I always opt for when driving, as flat shoes a much comfier to wear on long distance journeys and most appropriate. However, if I feel like dressing up a little more with a pair of boots per say, I will make sure to bring them in the car with me to change over once we reach our destination. Jeans make for the perfect substitute when it comes to casual wear as you can dress them up or down and I love my J Brand Jeans for this! Dark denim jeans are a must during fall for a slimming appearance and longer looking legs.
When Autumn comes I ditch my light colour jeans for darker washes to compliment the season. On top, keep it simple and cosy by layering a jumper over a shirt. Choose complementing colours. Ralph Lauren have Autumns key trends nailed with simplicity going by this Ribbed Wool Pencil Skirt, a wardrobe must have and something you can dress up or down just like I have here and here with my over knee boots from Stuart Weitzman.
Comfort and Colour
Arriving for a date in a perfect outfit that you are uncomfortable in is a big no-no. Your discomfort will resonate with your date and whether or not you intend to or not, you may find yourself losing focus on what they are saying. Feeling good in what you wear is important, so don’t be afraid to choose an old favourite or something that you regularly get complimented on. If you feel good, you’ll look good! The same goes for your makeup whether you're going for a more natural approach or full out glam. Make sure your makeup works with your outfit of choice and balances each other out.
With International Coffee Day taking place on Sunday 1st October, why not arrange a coffee date for your next meet-up with your potential beau?
