Trying to get my hands on the MAC Spice lip pencil a couple of months back was literally impossible! I bought this alongside Velvet Teddy which I reviewed back in April here. I actually love wearing this alone or teamed with my other nude lipsticks for more definition! It’s something I can’t live without now and definitely hooked on the MAC lip liners for sure.
Product Details: MAC Spice Lip Pencil
I’ve always loved matte lipsticks and find the MAC ones perfect as the formula isn’t drying at all and just looks incredibly pretty when teamed with the lip pencils. Before applying I would always make sure to use a super hydrating lip balm and love the bees wax formulas or Epic Blend balms, they work great to hydrate whilst making lips smooth ready for application. Over time when using lip balms your lips will not dry out with the matte formula and stay moisturised all day! I normally like to top mine up throughout the day and go in again with lip balm if my lips are feeling dry. The textures surprisingly creamy and definitely long lasting! I haven’t used a lip liner as good as this before and the formula just stays put all day.
Spice is a deep brown pink shade with orange undertones to create flattering depth and bring warmth to the lips, perfect if your teaming it with lighter shades in the nude family. I actually find this suits me really well, even although it’s more for medium skin tones! I thought the orange undertones would clash with my hair but in all honesty it works really well and I find the shade very flattering against my pale skin. I do use bronzer now to add colour to my complexion and I find this works just as good, but it’s definitely a great all round shade for all skin tones.
When using the lip liner alone I would always use lip balm before application as without it this formula will accentuate fine lines on the lips and become very drying. When using lip balm the shade alone looks very pretty and warms up my complexion but I do enjoy teaming it with Velvet Teddy most day’s as part of my everyday make-up routine. It’s very pigmented and you can play around with how deep/light you want the shade to be and how much depth you want for a fuller lip appearance. I think the price works out really well as the pencil sharpens and will last month’s! I also feel you get what you pay for in terms of longevity.
